Rephrase is built around a simple principle: selected text should help you write better, not become a dataset. Here is exactly what happens to your text.

What is sent

Only the text you select, only to generate a rewrite.

The text you select and the preset you choose are sent to the Rephrase backend, then to our LLM provider, solely to generate your rewrite.

Nothing else from your Mac

Rephrase does not read your clipboard history, other open documents, or anything outside the text you explicitly selected.

What is retained

Nothing, by default.

Text is transmitted to perform the rewrite and is not written to application storage afterward.

✓Request logs and error traces are scrubbed of text content by default.

✓We track completion metadata (status, latency, token counts) for reliability — never the content itself.

Which provider

Google Gemini, on a paid API tier.

Rephrase currently uses Google's Gemini API on a paid tier. Under Google's Gemini API terms, paid-tier prompts and responses are not used to train or improve Google's products, and are not reviewed by humans — they are logged only briefly for abuse, safety, and legal compliance. If we ever change providers, this page is updated before the change ships.

Your controls

There is no writing history to hand over, because none is kept.

Since rewrite content is never stored, there is no writing archive tied to your account in the first place.
